Shenzhen

Shenzhen is demarcated from Hong Kong by the Shenzhen River in the South, and is bordered by Dongguan and Huizhou to the north. Its sea is part of the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. It is a natural port city with Daya Bay in the east and the Lingding Sea to the west.

Visa

Visa is not required for residents of Singapore, Brunei & Japan for stays up to 15 days.

Visa is required for residents of Malaysia, Australia, Indonesia, US.

Electricity

Electricity supply is usually 220 volts. The local sockets usually have two parallel pins or 3 flat pins, the lower pair angled, but other types are also in use. Most hotels provide adapters.

Water

Tap water is not safe to drink without boiling it. Bottled water can be bought in convenience store.

Language

Chinese is the official languages, Cantonese is also widely spoken. English comprehensive is limited to tourism related service.

Tommy Ooi’s Traveling Tips

Upon arrival, get yourself a Shenzhen Tong ( a prepaid payment card ) at Airport or any MTR Station.

Shenzhen Tong can be use in Metro, Public Bus and even in some retail shops such as Vanguard & Jusco.

It is very convenient, fast and easy to use.

Arriving Shenzhen

From the Airport

1. Metro

There are shuttle services connecting the new terminal with Shenzhen Metro Luobao Line. Non-stopping service M416 runs between Hourui Station and the new terminal. Local bus service M417 runs between Airport East Station and new terminal with a few stops.

From 2015, rail service will be via Line 11, providing service from the airport via Bao’an and Nanshan to Futian Station, connecting with Futian Railway Station High Speed Rail services.

2. Bus

Bus Route No.330 is from Shenzhen airport to Hualian Mansion.

The total distance is 35 km, which will take approximately 50 minutes to finish the whole trip and is mainly providing the passengers taking a plane with the surface transportation service.

2. Taxi

Taxis to central Futian are approximately ¥100 and to Luohu approximately ¥135 including tolls.

Red or yellow taxi fare is RMB 12.5 for the first three kilometers, then 2.4 RMB per kilometer. Green taxi fare is RMB 7 at flag fall for the first 2 kilometers then RMB 1.6 per kilometer.

After 11:00 pm, taxi fare includes an additional service surcharge: An additional 30 percent for yellow and red taxis, and 20 percent for green taxis. The final meter reading is the total price of the ride. Always ask for a receipt or “fapiao.”

From Hong Kong

Take the MTR East Rail Line to Lo Wu ( 罗湖 ) or Lok Ma Chau ( 落马洲 ), from there just walk over to Shenzhen after passing both places immigration.

East Rail Line

From Guangzhou

1. High Speed Train

Both Guangzhou Railway Station and Guangzhou East Railway Station provide the bullet trains from Guangzhou to Shenzhen. Guangzhou East Railway Station has more interval to Shenzhen.

The whole trip takes about 52 minutes. The ticket cost is around CNY100 for first-class soft seat and CNY95 for second-class soft seat.

2. Express Bus

Take an express bus from Tian He Bus Station ( 天河客运站 ) or Liu Hua Bus Station ( 流花客运站 ) to Shenzhen. Express Bus Ticket to Shenzhen cost about ¥70 ( USD11 / RM35 / SGD15 ).

From Zhuhai

1. Express Bus

Take an express bus from Gongbei Bus Station ( 拱北客运站 ) to Shenzhen. Express Bus Ticket to Shenzhen cost about ¥90 ( USD14 / RM45 / SGD19 ). The journey would take approximately 3 hours.

2. Ferry

Take a ferry From Zhuhai Jiu Zhou Port ( 九洲港 ) to Shenzhen Shekou Port ( 蛇口港 ). Total sailing time is about 60 minutes and cost about ¥95 ( USD14.50 / RM47.50 / SGD20 )
