We were looking for a short getaway recently and stayed in SALA Phuket Resort & Spa, the newer addition after the overwhelming success of their sister hotel SALA Samui.
SALA Phuket Resort & Spa is located merely 20 mins away from Phuket International Airport. Situated by the fairly unknown Mai Khao Beach, we literally get to enjoy the whole beach for ourselves. The boutique hotel features 79 rooms across 7 categories with each villa’s design influenced by Sino-Portuguese architectural style with minimalist touch.
From only RM750/SGD250 per pax per night, we booked the SALA Pool Villa that comes with a private pool. We strongly recommend a 2 or 3 nights stay. The best part of the hotel, it is very insta-worthy.

SALA Pool Villa
Our SALA Pool Villa is a luxurious 157 sqm of space which is larger than most apartments in KL or Penang. It comes with a private pool, open air bath tub and rain shower. The high walls surrounding the villa assures ample privacy.
Upon check in to our villa, we were given to choose our preferred scents of bath soaps, shampoos, conditioners and body lotions.
We even ordered rose petals for our bubble bath.
Mai Khao Beach

The unspoiled beach with less crowd
Sunset Dinner
The Sunset Rooftop dinner is one of the hotel’s highlight with the beautiful sunset as view
Yellow fin Tuna Tartare marinated in Fresh Herbs, Chilli, Lemon juice & Sesame oil – 420 THB
Green Mango Salad with Soft Shell Crab – 390 THB
Twice cooked Crispy Pork Belly – 750 THB
Harissa spiced Lamb Cutlets – 1,350 THB
We were surprised, dining at SALA Phuket Resort & Spa is actually very reasonable. Price for a decent 2 course meal hovers around RM150/SGD50 per pax. The quality in taste, flavour and dish presentation leaves a delightful impression on the sensory and palate. For the price offered, it is a great bargain.
SALA SPA
The SALA Spa offers 5 indoor treatment rooms and 3 beachfront massage stations. Facilities also include sauna and steam rooms, and the SALA GYM right beside the spa.
Using luxuriant product treatments exclusively by Pevonia Botanica’s 100% natural plant extracts and pure essential oils, designed to eliminate toxins and invigorate the skin.
We chose the SALA Selection Massage (60 mins 3000++THB per pax), their signature massage that combines four different massage styles of Thai massage, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, Swedish and Balinese. The massage uses specially-blended massage essential coconut oil mainly to calm the nervous system, warm and relax muscle tissue and promote the growth of healthy, new skin cells, ultimately resulting in total relaxation and suppleness of the skin.

During our stay in SALA Phuket Spa & Resort, we joined their Big Chilli Thai Cooking Class. We learn how to cook Gaeng Kiew Waan Gai – Green curry with chicken; Tom Yam Goong – The famous spicy soup with prawns & Nam Tok Nuea – Char grilled beef salad with chili and mint.
The hotel’s Thai chef guided us the cooking techniques and ingredients used to prepare the Thai dishes. After cooking each dishes, we get to eat them. It was very fun and surprised how these dishes are fairly simple to cook! Price: 1,400 Baht++ per person
